DESCRIPTION:Eastern University’s Theatre department is proud to present Working\, a musical based on the book by Studs Terkel\, adapted by Stephen Schwartz and Nina Faso. The musical features songs from Craig Carnelia\, Micki Grant\, Lin-Manuel Miranda\, Mary Rodgers and Susan Birkenhead\, Stephen Schwartz\, and James Taylor.  \nStuds Terkel explains that Working is about a search “for daily meaning as well as daily bread\, for recognition as well as cash . . . for a sort of life rather than a Monday through Friday sort of dying. Perhaps immortality too\, is part of the quest. To be remembered was the wish\, spoken and unspoken\, of the heroes and heroines of this book.” \nThat book is now a musical with monologues created from interviews with local community members including Sergeant Santiago\, a Philadelphia police officer and part-time English professor at Esperanza College. Sergeant Santiago has worked the streets for over a decade and his passion for the Kensington and Esperanza community shines through even the darkest night shift.  \nThe cast and crew created a localized version of the musical featuring a cast of 17 undergraduate students who bring to life the difficult\, honest\, and hilarious facets of working in America over the last several decades. A five-person pit band composed of students and local musicians makes for a highly entertaining afternoon of theatre. \nWorking is a family-friendly musical. \nIn person tickets are $5 for general admission and free for seniors students. DESCRIPTION:Casa de Venezuela Presents\nVenezuelan Expressions 2022\nNovember 5\, 2022\n5pm-8pm \nTEATRO ESPERANZA  \nLa Flauta de Venezuela\nHUASCAR BARRADAS\nSus Amigos \nWorld renowned Venezuelan flutist and Latin Grammy® winner Huáscar Barradas has worked with some of the most important musical talents in Venezuela\, including Simón Díaz\, Oscar D’ León\, Ilán Chester\, Guaco\, Voz Veis\, and Chino & Nacho. He has also performed with the great international artists Rosario Flores\, Isabel Pantoja\, and Miguel Bosé. Huáscar and his friends will be joined on the Teatro stage by María Virginia Caldera\, Venezuelan songwriter\, musician\, producer and Latin Grammy Nominee\, as well as percussionist Nerio Mattheus. \nArcoNet’s alumni and students will also be featured on the program\, joined by Mary Javian\, Bass (Curtis Institute of Music faculty);  Luigi Mazzocchi\, Violin (Philadelphia Ballet Concertmaster); Adriana Linares\, Viola (Dali Quartet and ArcoNet Director); and Carlos Rubio\, violin (Dali Quartet and West Chester University Faculty). \nMaster of ceremonies will be musician\, singer and composer Juan Carlos Ruiz. \nLimited capacity\, buy your tickets before they sell out.

Through anecdotes\, tips\, experiences\, successes and failures\, Huascar Barradas\, “The Venezuelan Unlimited Flutist”\, addresses the difficulties of such a competitive and challenging career in today’s world. \nThe class also includes topics from the most specific musical technical problems to issues that have to do with the competitive world of commercial music. Sonata by Bach to a Salsa from Oscar D’León will be featured in the masterclass. \nIt is a motivational session\, where beyond the music\, it will reinforce values such as responsibility\, ethics\, teamwork\, perseverance\, recognition of their talents among many other topics that seek to raise\, educate\, and prepare individuals to succeed. \nPresentation will take place in-person or online. DESCRIPTION:Philadelphia Ballet \nEAC opens our 22/23 season with an evening of intimate performances and conversation featuring Latino principal dancers of the Philadelphia Ballet. \nPhiladelphia Ballet’s performances at Esperanza highlight the talented company members in the Latinx/Hispanic community. The program includes three solos\, performed by Principal Dancer Nayara Lopes\, Soloist Thays Golz\, and Corps de Ballet dancer Fernanda Oliveira. Principal Dancer Mayara Pineiro and Soloist Pau Pujol will perform a pas de deux from Paquita\, in addition to an excerpt from Don Quixote performed by Principal Dancers Arian Molina Soca and Dayesi Torriente. Philadelphia Ballet’s performance will conclude with Bourbon St.\, choreographed by Artistic Director Angel Corella and Demi Soloist Russell Ducker with music by Louis Prima and the Barcelona Hot Angels. Bourbon St. is a high-energy\, character-driven work that is an homage to the nightlife of New Orleans\, and features the Lindy Hop\, a swing-era dance-craze. Philadelphia Ballet is honored to collaborate with Esperanza in this celebration of the Latinx/Hispanic communities of Philadelphia. DESCRIPTION:Caili Quan – Nichos Project \nEAC’s Winter-Spring season and 2022 Voces Series comes to an exciting close with the world premiere of a new dance work by acclaimed choreographer and former BalletX dancer\, Caili Quan\, inspired by stories from neighborhood youth and their families\, in collaboration with EAC Artist-In-Residence\, Tanaquil Marquez\, and visual artist\, Cesar Viveros. \nThe Nichos Community Project is a multidisciplinary interactive cultural piece of the Mexican American community in Philadelphia. DESCRIPTION:Join us for a new way to experience ballet. Behind the Stage Door is an interactive multimedia performance that explores the “invisible” forces that bring the ballet to life. A multi-part experience\, the program includes original musical composition\, live dance\, film\, sculpture and multimedia stage design to illuminate the untold stories that are integral to Philadelphia Ballet. \nPhiladelphia Ballet II performs new choreography by Maria Konrad\, Gary Jeter\, Da’Von Doane\, and Zecheng Liang to original music composed by John B. Hedges; the evening will also include an animated film produced by Big Picture Alliance\, animated by Cybee Bloss and Alex Aldrich Barrett as well as set designs in partnership with Mural Arts.   \nPerformances will be presented at 50% capacity in the Teatro and masks are recommended throughout the event\, regardless of vaccination status.
