This inaugural concert will feature the first Latin big band in Philadelphia comprised of twenty acclaimed regional musicians\, donned in vibrant coordinated formal wear from the 40’s and 50’s\, and seated on multi-tiered platforms evocative of the big band era\, premiering new arrangements by bandleaders Jimmy Lopes and Tony Perez of classic big band Latin jazz greats\, including Mario Balza\, Tito Rodriguez\, Machito\, and Dizzy Gillespie. \nPart of the U.S. Semiquincentennial: In commemoration of the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence\, EAC will present a series of programs that celebrate and explore the Latino voice within the American landscape.
